The drive from Tortuguero to Arenal took about 5 hours. We drove through this cool tree tunnel and past all the bannana fields. 
We stayed in a place called Los Colinas it was right in the town of La Fortuna, it had a big terrace and you could see the volcano from there. We tried to see the lava flow that night but it was too cloudy. We walked around the town and looked in a few shops and then enjoyed dinner at the Lava lounge.
